Lakshmi S. Tummala, MD, MEd, FACC

I’m a general cardiologist and clinician-educator at Emory University/Grady Memorial Hospital in Atlanta, Georgia.

At Grady Memorial Hospital, I care for patients with cardiovascular disease and help lead our outpatient clinic. I’m also interested in treating obesity and cardiometabolic disease. I feel fortunate to serve our patient population and to work with amazing team members.

At Emory, I am an Associate Program Director for our fellowship and Core Faculty for our IM residents. I also co-direct our M1 Cardiology Course. I enjoy teaching learners at every level, though admittedly interns may be my favorite group to work with!

Cardio-Q comes from the questions that arose for me while seeing patients and precepting fellows in clinic. I started looking up answers to hone my practice of evidence-based medicine as well as model lifelong learning. Now, this website collects and shares these queries so other fellows, physicians, and cardiovascular team members can learn from them, too.

At home, my husband is a lawyer, and we’ve got two little kids aged 3 years and 8 months old. I’m so grateful for the family I grew up with and the family I have now, including their support for this passion project! When I’m not with my family, I’m usually reading or working on a jigsaw puzzle.

FAQs

Is this site reliable?

1

I am board-certified in Internal Medicine and Cardiovascular Disease, in practice for more than a decade now. I completed my training at Northwestern University (med school), New York University/Bellevue Hospital Center (IM residency), and Georgetown University/Washington Hospital Center (cardiology fellowship), plus an MEHP from Johns Hopkins University. Those credentials noted, my intention for this site is to serve other physicians and cardiovascular team members, educating my peers and our learners about outpatient cardiology and sharing some things I’ve learned about medical education and women in medicine along the way. Everything on this website (as of 2026) was written personally by me!

Do I really need a cardiologist if I have this site?

2

Yes! I practice cardiology at Grady Memorial Hospital and am happy to see patients there, but this is not a patient education page. Please ask your doctor any questions you have about your heart.
