Does a patient with an anterior STEMI and depressed left ventricular function need empiric anticoagulation?

This one comes up a lot and seems to be very institutionally dependent. Based on my training and experience, I do not routinely anticoagulate, though of course each case is different. I really like this excellent review from JAMA Cardiology that explains what we know and poses some intriguing questions for the future management of this clinical scenario.
